Whenever me think of great Canadian music we always think of all the talent in Toronto but never think about the other hard working artist making noise in their provinces.

Leila is a singing dynamo from Montreal, Quebec that is making noise with successful singles in both English and French.

You maybe more famiilar with her than you think. Her song “Move” was on MTV’s Real World Brooklyn and “Push Me Away” was played on MTV’s Taking the Stage.

Check out her phone interview with UrbanAmore.com and her experience as both a french and english recording artist.

As reported by Deborah Bourne:

It would seem that beyond the public, MTV executives are also smitten with Leila. Some of her songs are featured on two of their most popular TV show.

Her song “Move” was a top contender as MTV’s Taking the Stage theme song. However, producers chose Grammy Award nominee Leona Lewis’ song “Whatever it Takes.”

Her songs “Move”, “Like me” and “Push me away” from her upcoming album have been featured not only on Taking the Stage, but also on the show The Real World: Brooklyn.

Awards and albums

2009 marks the launch of Leila’s debut album on iTunes worldwide on May 12th. And while several of her songs gained recognition through their plays on MTV, some of her songs are ranked on radio stations in Europe, including Russia and Bulgaria.

Along with her first album, Leila is also nominated for a Stylus Award. Her song “Like me” is up for Best R&B Single of the Year.

Jacynthe

Back after 9 # 1 Hit singles in pop artist Jacynthe’s new single “Change” Is Co-produced By Tag Records Tino Izzo (Celine Dion) and Seven30 C.E.O Nick Jarjour (Leila) .
Q&A with co- producer Nick Jarjour about the record:Jacynthe – Change

How the record  with Jacynthe came about:

It was old guitar track version by Tino that I sampled and got the Co-Production credit with Tino on. One of my mentor’s Bob Telaro placed it with Jacynthe (Universal Music) It was in a place Bob knows I refer to as the “Oil Feild ” I cut the record and a few months later it is getting heavy rotation in Germany and forecasting a huge North American comeback for her.

What is the background on the record:

Working on the Leila English album in early 08 I suggested to Tino the idea of sampling some of his stuff as he would later do with some of mine ( Leila – Move)

When I first heard the record it was an acoustic gutar and Tino singing ,within 5 seconds I told Bob that was the record.

What The Music Industry Can Learn From Detroit

Filed under: From Around the Web | Tags: , , | No Comments »

As reported on hypebot.com.

“Companies of the future will see the public as their partner.  Rather than suing customers, they’ll give them blankets, and a return of all fees when a concert is canceled.  There’s no service in this industry.  And it was the lack of service that shredded Detroit’s reputation…

“We’ve got a long way to go to reestablish music’s dominance on the popular culture landscape.  It can be done, but only if the execs stop worrying about their lifestyle more than the music and the acts get honest and stop scalping their own tickets, only if making music isn’t about fame but songs, only if stars earn that moniker from the music they make as opposed to the contests they win.”

CD Packaging Study: “It Isn’t Easy Being Green”

Filed under: Efficiency, From Around the Web | Tags: , | No Comments »

As reported hyperbot.com

Comparing Packaging Options For Compact Discs – A Environmental & Toxicological Assessment,” a new RIAA and NARM joint study of CD packaging highlights the environmental impact of various CD packaging options.

Think moving from less plastic to more cardboard – even recycled cardboard – is the answer to going green? Think again.  Some new packaging still uses a bit of plastic to hold the CD in place and that creates a “mixed”  recyclable that can be even more difficult to dispose of.  Even all-cardboard cases cause problems unless you use just the right adhesives since most glues contain carcinogens.

The 69 page study recommends an open dialog between artists, labels and suppliers to find and use the greenest available packaging for each project and the use of eco-labeling to keep consumers informed. Or we could all just go digital…
